WHY SHOULD I HAVE A MEDEFILE?

Because it could save your life…or the life of a loved one! MedeFile takes care of the entire process and will always have your medical record information ready for your use. MedeFile gathers and stores copies of all your medical records and makes them accessible to you and your medical providers as needed.

WHAT TYPE OF RECORDS AND INFORMATION ARE STORED IN A MEDEFILE?

Your MedeFile contains information about your physicians, Insurance, emergency contacts, medical conditions, medications, allergies, and family history. You may also store copies of living wills, healthcare durable power of attorneys, authorizations to treat a minor and organ donor forms along with any other documents you might consider important.

HOW FAR BACK CAN YOU GET MY RECORDS?

State regulations vary but providers are generally required to maintain patient records for five to seven years, after which they may be destroyed.

WHAT IF I CAN’T REMEMBER THE NAMES OF ALL MY DOCTORS?

No worries, tell us what you do remember. When we mean we do all the legwork - we mean it!

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE YOU TO GET MY RECORDS?

Medefile works to get your medical records as quickly as possible. The law allows providers and facilities up to 30 days to reply to a request for records. Our turnaround time is about two weeks. If you need something faster…just let us know and we will push to accommodate your needs.

CAN YOU GET IMMUNIZATION, DENTAL, VISION RECORDS? WHAT ABOUT PSYCHIATRIC RECORDS?

We can get immunization, dental and vision records as easily as most others. Psychiatric records are a bit more difficult as patients don’t have the same rights to access their records as they have with other records. It’s not impossible, but it’s also not guaranteed.

ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL CHARGES WHEN MEDEFILE REQUESTS MY RECORDS FROM DOCTORS, HOSPITALS OR OTHER HEALTHCARE FACILITIES?

If the doctor’s office or hospital charges for copies of your medical records, these charges are the responsibility of the member. MedeFile does not add any type of fee for record retrieval charges or the like. The fees providers and facilities charge are governed by the state they are located in.

WILL YOU KEEP MY RECORDS UP TO DATE? HOW WILL YOU KNOW IF I HAVE NEW RECORDS?

Yes. You can let us know if you have recently been to see your providers otherwise, we will automatically request updated records from your list of providers every quarter. So, every three months we will secure your updated records.

CAN I SHARE MY RECORDS WITH DOCTORS AND FAMILY MEMBERS?

Access to each member’s MedeFile is exclusively controlled by that member but you can fax or email your records as you wish using our MedeMobile and Fax on Demand.

HOW IS MY INFORMATION ACCESSED IN AN EMERGENCY?

Make sure to carry your MedeDrive at all times regardless of where you go. Emergency medical personnel will be able to access your medical information simply and quickly.

I’VE ALREADY COLLECTED SOME OF MY MEDICAL RECORDS. CAN I SEND THEM TO YOU TO INCLUDE IN MY ACCOUNT?

Absolutely!

WHAT IF I LOSE MY MEDEDRIVE?

If your MedeDrive is ever lost or stolen, the drive is equipped with a built in security feature that will auto-delete any and all personal information after three (3) unsuccessful login attempts. Contact MedeFile for an additional drive and we can help you recover lost data.

WHAT IF I WISH TO DISCONTINUE THIS SERVICE AND REMOVE MY RECORDS?

You can cancel your account at any time…just let us know. Keep in mind that once we cancel your account, your medical records and all of your information will be purged from our system within 24 hours.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN I REQUEST/UPDATE MY RECORDS?

As often as you wish! Otherwise, we will automatically request updated records from your list of healthcare providers on a quarterly basis.

HOW DO I KNOW MY MEDICAL INFORMATION WILL ALWAYS BE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL AND SAFE?

MedeFile considers security, privacy and confidentiality to be of paramount importance. All of MedeFile’s staff are bonded and trained in the latest privacy and patient confidentiality rules and regulations. The MedeFile system even incorporates a complete audit trail for your review, which is time and date stamped for you to see at any time. That way you can see who’s been viewing/accessing your information.
